Truffles are well-known to be expensive because they are difficult to cultivate. This makes them a real delicacy which some people have called the king of all fungi. What is the world’s most expensive truffle? These are white truffles and they are even are more expensive than black truffles.
The AP reported that a real estate investor and his wife from Hong Kong have paid $160,406 USD for a large Italian White Alba truffle which is said to be the world’s most expensive ever. The most expensive truffle weighs 1.51 kilograms (3.3 lbs).
Last year in Hong Kong a group of buyers paid €95,000 for a 1.2-kilogram (2.7-pound) truffle. Guinness World Records then named this purchase as the most expensive truffle bought at an auction.
With the recent growing popularity of culinary TV shows, expensive truffles are being proposed to a wider audience as never before. But nobody knows how much will cost this delicacy in the nearest future.
